Trout Hatchery Tours

Also at Dunkeld Estate. An exciting new development: a world-class, state-of-the-art trout breeding facility. It’s an environmentally friendly and sustainable operation that, through the recirculation of water, provides trout with an optimal habitat – without any detrimental effects to the ecosystem and environment. Due to strict health controls, only guided tours that have been made by prior arrangement will be allowed (R50 per person). It’s a fascinating facility – so book in advance!

Bird of Prey Centre

A must see when visiting Dullstroom. Children love the wild bird shows and happily spend hours there with the shows.

There is also a childrens fishing pond, small “zoo” of rescued and rehabilitated small wildlife, and then of course, all the birds.

They believe that the wellbeing of our animals is always our number one priority, not the fiscal aspect of the activities on offer for public entertainment.

Be sure to pack extra water and cold-drinks, and sunscreen and wear a hat! For more information and to contact the centre, you can visit our page here: Bird of Prey Centre.

Mountain biking

Onwer Callen Watson is an experienced mountain bike rider and technician in Dullstroom that can give guidance on beginner trails for kid.  He also conducts cycling clinics on request. Watson Wheels Bicycle Hire, Repairs and Maintenance.

Verloren Valei Nature Reserve

Verloren Valei Nature Reserve (Lost Valley in English) is a protected nature reserve roughly 13km outside Dullstroom. It is one of few places in the country to breed all three of the world’s endangered cranes. Guided tours around the reserve to sight the blue crane, the wattled crane and the crowned crane are by appointment only – the reserve is an international Ramsar wetlands site and enjoys international importance. An interlinked series of over 30 wetlands are home to significant birds, including red data species, so it is understandable that Verloren Vallei Nature Reserve is serious about providing safe refuge to its countless birds. Dullstroom on Horseback

An experience to remember

Dullstroom has a unique charm, characterized by beautiful scenery, low temperatures, high altitude, misty mornings and peaceful streets. There is no better way to experience this beauty than on horseback.

Offering out rides for young and old, the experienced and beginner, we have surefooted, well-trained horses to ensure an unforgettable experience.

A 2-hour trail, starting from Dullstroom-on-the-Dam, (just 900m from the main road) takes us over the town dam wall, up the Suikerboschkop mountain, right up to the cross on the apex, where the panoramic view of the area is enjoyed. Another significant landmark on the route is the memorial and graves of the Anglo-Boer war soldiers.
